Ancient Gandharan Stucco Buddha Head Fragment Ca. 2nd to 4th century A.D. Size 3 inches wide. 3 3/4 inches high.+ stand. Carved stucco Buddha head fragment, depicted with heavily lidded, deeply set bulging eyes, and a passive facial expressive, as if in a meditative trance. Wavy hairdo wearing a centerpiece. Overall scattered areas of earthen deposits. Mounted on a custom block base. Provenance: Ex. Sumer Gallery, Henry Anavian, NYC. Acquired 1980s. To family by descent.
