Ancient Egyptian Coptic Portrait Textile c.5th century AD. The size of the Frame is 19 1/4 x 18 1/4 inches. Large multi-color woven and embroidered textile fragment depicting a portrait of a woman (?), having large wide-open eyes and a cropped hairdo, wearing a segmented headband. Overall scattered losses and imperfections. Mounted and framed under glass. A rare type. Provenance: Altschul Collection, NYC, some acquired before 1982, from Charles D. Kelekian & some gifted by Nanette Kelekian (daughter of Charles) in the 1990s. By descent to her son.
